Lastly, let’s talk about what to do with all of these units. By the time you get your second Immortal or Colossus out, it is probably time to start attacking. An extremely important function of the Protoss attack is the ability to warp in Gateway units anywhere there is a Pylon. When you attack (or right before), build a “forward Pylon” near your enemy's base to warp in reinforcements, but not somewhere where he'll run up and kill it. Try to make sure that, when you engage, your Zealots are in front. If your Immortals or Colossi are being focus fired, make sure to back them up so they don’t die at the beginning of the combat!
Awwwww yaaa, let's go out and kill EVERYTHING!
Ahh! Ahh! I said this page was short, not one single paragraph! There is one last thing I want to hit.
Setup, Hotkeys, and the Early Game
Make sure you took care of the Options setup back from the bottom of the Overarching Concepts page! That alone will help you a ton! Also, make sure you review my video about the 3-Gate Robo on the bottom of this page, because that will contain a lot of this information. To create a hotkey, hold ctrl and press a number 0 – 9. In general, you are going to want to keep the numbers lower on the number range so you hands don’t have to move as far around and get your keystrokes off. At the start of the game, bind your Nexus (the large starting building) to slot 1 by hitting “ctrl+1”. Make sure to be hitting 1 then “E” to make Probes (your worker unit as Protoss) and not clicking your Nexus and the Probe icon. Lastly, hit “1” to select your Nexus, then right click a mineral patch. This way, when Probes finish being constructed, they will rally straight to the mineral line. A couple of small, final tips to get you on your way! You
first Chronoboost will always be used right when your first Pylon finishes, and
will always be on your Nexus. Skipping ahead in the game a bit, once Warp Gate
technology has been researched at the Cybernetics Core and all your Gateways
have been converted to Warp Gates using the “G” hotkey, you can press “W” at any time to access all
of your Warp Gates. And lastly, every time you attack, make sure you have built
a forward Pylon to reinforce your army with. Always A-move, or attack move, which is where you hit "A" and left click somewhere. This way, your units will attack to location x, rather than move and get shot up along the way.
Don’t forget Probe production!
Cue Exit Music
That is all I have for Introduction to Protoss: The Basics. Moving onto the second part, Matchup Specific Play, I will introduce a build order for each matchup and discuss more in-depth strategies behind fighting each individual race. Remember, there is no need to rush! Take your time, and nail in your basics- every single game will start with the basics, and if you die in the early-game due to poor basics, if doesn’t matter how advanced your late-game play is : ).
