At this point, you’ve either selected Protoss as the race you want to explore more deeply, or you just want to get a sample of what the Protoss race is like. Let me restate a little of what has been said, and then we can move on to the actual gameplay style of Protoss and a starter build.
Who are the Protoss?
The Protoss are the valiant aliens from the movies that, in the end, turns out were just trying to do some good in the universe by wiping out the Zerg (no campaign spoilers there!) In-game, they have the highest amount of health, do the most damage, and cost more than units of the Terran and Zerg race in terms of resources and supply.
The macro mechanic of the Protoss race is the Chronoboost, or Chrono for short. It is used at the Nexus and costs 25 energy, and causes units or upgrade production to speed up by 50% for a brief period of time. To build a building, the Protoss player must select a Probe and tell it to make the structure within the radius of an existing Pylon, but the Probe may then return to the mineral line and let the building finish on its own. Make sure you never leave multiple buildings powered off of a single Pylon- this is known as an Artosis Pylon, named after popular Starcraft: Brood War player and Starcraft II caster Artosis. The only buildings that do not need to be built within the power radius of a Pylon are the Nexus- the command building-, the Assimilator -which must be built on a Vespene Geyser-, and the Pylon itself.
The blue Protoss player is about to suffer the pain of an Artosis Pylon to the maximum extent.
So let's get started, eh?
Yes, let's! Go ahead and hop on over to The Basics, and we can move on from there!
